September 11, 2001 was a day that changed New York and changed the world forever.
Here in New York City, thousands of people began what they believed would be an ordinary Tuesday morning. They went to work. They boarded trains and buses. They sat down at their desks. First responders began their shifts. Families said goodbye that morning expecting to see their loved ones again that evening.
For nearly 3,000 people, that evening never came.
We remember every innocent life taken at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon, and aboard Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. They were office workers, first responders, passengers, flight crews, military personnel, visitors, and people from every walk of life. They were mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, brothers and sisters, friends, coworkers, and neighbors.
We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, Port Authority officers, rescue workers, and ordinary people who ran toward unimaginable danger to help others. We remember those who became sick and those we have lost in the years since because of their work at Ground Zero and throughout the rescue and recovery effort. And we remember the families who have carried an absence for 25 years that can never truly be filled.
Today, the City Line Ozone Park Civilian Patrol joins our fellow New Yorkers and Americans across the country in remembering the lives taken from us on September 11, 2001 and honoring all those who answered the call to help.
May we never forget those who left home that morning and never returned. May we never forget those who gave their lives trying to save them. May we never forget those we have lost in the years since.
And may we never forget what it meant to stand together.
25 years later, we remember.
Never Forget. 🇺🇸
