We are again seeing reports and reminders of a scam that has affected our area, and we want to make sure our community stays aware.
These individuals approach people while seated in a vehicle. One person may wave you over to the backseat window and start casual conversation, asking about jewelry cleaning, offering blessings, or pretending to give you a gift. While distracting you, they will swap your real jewelry for fake pieces without you realizing it.
Their main targets are often women, especially seniors. They almost always operate from a car and rely on distraction to get close.
If someone calls you over to their vehicle, do not approach.
Please take a moment to remind elderly family members, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable.
