For immediate release – local arsonist arrested
We are relieved to learn that the individual believed to be responsible for a series of dangerous incidents across our community is now in police custody.
According to the NYPD, the suspect allegedly threw incendiary devices last night at Iglesia Bautista El Mesias at 97-44 75 Street and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 92-04 78 Street before being arrested by officers of the 102 Precinct. Investigators believe the same individual was responsible for the earlier incident at Boithok Khana Restaurant on Liberty Avenue and several other incidents within the confines of the
75 Precinct in Brooklyn.
We are grateful that no one was injured. We commend the officers of the 102 Precinct for their swift action, along with the NYPD detectives, FDNY firefighters, and FDNY Fire Marshals who continue to investigate. COPCP remains in close communication with our partners in the NYPD and with Council Member Joann Ariola.
We expect every available charge to be pursued by the district attorney’s office. This individual should not be back out on our streets, and we know that too often that is exactly what happens. Our community deserves better, and we will be watching these cases closely.
