🚨 Statute Thief Apprehended!
We are glad to share that the suspect responsible for stealing religious statues from homes in Howard Beach and the Centerville section of Ozone Park has been apprehended.
For weeks, many residents were rightfully upset and worried as religious statues were taken from private homes. These items are not just decorations. For many families, they represent faith, tradition, and years of meaning passed down in the home.
We thank the officers of the 106 Precinct for their work in this case, under the leadership of Captain Mario Deras. We also thank the residents who shared information, checked their cameras, and helped bring attention to what was happening.
With everything our communities have seen recently, we have to remain clear and united. No faith should be targeted. No house of worship should be targeted. No family should feel that something sacred to them is unsafe in front of their own home.
