PACKAGE THEFTS NEED TO BE REPORTED.
We are seeing a major uptick in package theft posts across the neighborhood. People are posting videos and pictures, asking the community to look out for these individuals.
But here is the honest question:
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙞𝙛 𝙣𝙤 𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙙?
Recently, a post about a package thief gained a lot of attention. Hundreds of likes. Thousands of views. Based on what was posted, our Civilian Patrol was able to locate the individual walking around the community, blatantly out and about like nothing happened.
Our members followed from a safe distance, observed, and made sure he was not stealing more packages that day.
But what we really wanted was for him to be arrested for the package theft he had already committed. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁.
That is the problem‼️
A social media post is not a police report. Posting a video may warn neighbors, but without an actual report, there is no complaint, no official record, and no proper way to move forward.
We understand people get frustrated. We understand the package may have been replaced. We understand people feel like nothing will be done.
But reports matter.
They show patterns. They help the precinct know where these thefts are happening. They help connect repeat offenders to multiple incidents. And if that person is later stopped or arrested for something else, your report and your video can help build a stronger case.
If your package is stolen, file a police report‼️
1️⃣ Call 911 from the location where the theft happened.
2️⃣ You can also go to your local NYPD precinct in person.

Have your tracking information, delivery confirmation, photos, video, time, date, location, and the value of the stolen item ready.
