Taking care of our shared public spaces takes all of us.

Taking care of our shared public spaces takes all of us.

Taking care of our shared public spaces takes all of us. We appreciate Council Member Joann Ariola and DSNY for responding quickly after concerns were raised about Liberty Avenue Plaza.
But this cannot just be about calling DSNY every time something gets left behind. We have discouraged people from feeding the pigeons, spoken with people about keeping the plaza clean, and raised concerns when we see them, but everyone who uses this space has to do their part too.
If you see someone dumping furniture, littering, feeding pigeons, or otherwise disrespecting the plaza, speak up and report it. If you see a condition that needs attention, put it into 311, contact your elected officials, or let us know.
We can continue advocating, reporting, and following up, but no amount of funding, cleaning, or enforcement will keep a public space nice if the people using it do not take care of it too. This plaza belongs to the community, and keeping it clean takes all of us.
