On Tuesday, September 27th, at approximately 6:18 PM, a shooting incident occurred at London Planetree Playground near 88th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Ozone Park. Four people were injured, including a 15 year old female shot in the leg taken to LIJ in stable condition, a 16 year old male shot in the back taken to LIJ in stable condition, a 20 year old male shot 2x in the leg taken to Jamaica in stable condition, and a 32 year old male shot in the leg taken to Jamaica in stable condition. All four were inside the park on Atlantic Avenue and 88 Street when they were shot. None of them appear to be the intended targets at his time. The suspect(s) remain at large. The NYPD provided this information; it is subject to change as the investigation continues.
COPCP is dismayed to see this senseless act of violence in our community, let alone a park with children in it. Our children shouldn’t be scared to go to the parks and our seniors to be walking outside. We will not accept this, and as a community, we must demand accountability. COPCP has requested an increased presence from the NYPD, and we will also increase our presence while patrolling. We urge everyone to remain vigilant. If you see something, say something. We also encourage everyone to get involved in protecting our community through the NYPD or COPCP.
